Rules and Regulations

We invite all brewers, judges, stewards, to participate in the Annual Pepper Extravaganza, which takes place in June each year. This is an AHA/BJCP sanctioned competition.

The Competition: This competition is organized in memory of the Beckett Lake Nursery. Every year they held one of Florida’s best Hot Sauce and Pepper Festivals. The event organizers are fellow brewers, so Dunedin Brewers Guild had a booth and we would pass out samples of our Homebrewed Pepper beer. We had several people bring their different creations for sampling. With the Pepper Fest now extinct, we thought we would keep the tradition alive and host a Pepper beer competition, in order to keep our creative minds going.

This competition accepts all styles of beer that are brewed and/or flavored with Peppers. We will break down the style to light, amber, and dark beers, the amount of heat or type of pepper will not determine how to enter.

A base beer style, and the type of peppers used will be required. Please read below to verify how we break down the category.

Categories: We will be accepting beers in Light, Amber, and Dark categories and here is the breakdown of what is considered to fit this criteria. Again, note that the categories are not distinguished by Pepper type or heat level. BJCP categories 20 (Fruit), 21 (Spiced), 22 (Smoke/Wood), 23 (Specialty), may be entered in any of the below categories, based on the Base style of the entry, 24-28 (Meads and Ciders) maybe entered according to color.
